Health Care should be a right, not a privilege. The insurance industry has gotten too close to Washington and can no longer be trusted to give Americans access to good, affordable health care. Single-payer health care makes sense because it removes the middle-man and all of the associated costs. Instead of hospitals being forced to negotiate with multiple insurance and pharmaceutical companies, they are allowed to set the price of care. Patients receive equal treatment and appropriate care, regardless of their medical insurance provider.
Obviously there will need to be government regulation to offset the effects of the lack of competition, but the elimination of middle-men and paper work will allow the care provided to be cheaper, better and more widespread. While it might not be perfect, Single-payer would be a step in the right direction. The situation as it stands today is unacceptable. |

In the US 2006 the American government spent nearly 700, billion dollars on health and human services. (1)
That means that roughly 2300 per capita was spent on health care. That should be enough to cover 100% of Americans 100% of the time.
Canada which has one of the very best health systems on the planet spends $3,000 dollars per person on health care, and less then 10 % of the GDP. (2)
The United stats pays nearly $6000 per person and 15% of our GDP for a system which is much worst than Canada's. (3)
Where is this extra $3000 a person going...? to the insurance INDUSTRY.
If we opt for universal health care we can eliminate this bloated behemoth which leaches off our system and stands between our doctors and our patients.
We'll all save money, because we already pay enough taxes for universal coverage.
