Health Care should be a right, not a privilege. The insurance industry has gotten too close to Washington and can no longer be trusted to give Americans access to good, affordable health care. Single-payer health care makes sense because it removes the middle-man and all of the associated costs. Instead of hospitals being forced to negotiate with multiple insurance and pharmaceutical companies, they are allowed to set the price of care. Patients receive equal treatment and appropriate care, regardless of their medical insurance provider.
Obviously there will need to be government regulation to offset the effects of the lack of competition, but the elimination of middle-men and paper work will allow the care provided to be cheaper, better and more widespread. While it might not be perfect, Single-payer would be a step in the right direction. The situation as it stands today is unacceptable.
