Should businesses pay fines when they pollute?

Businesses need to be held accountable for damage that otherwise society has to pay. If Wal-Mart leaks fertilizer in my water supply, then I want them to pay to clean it up, whether or not they did it on purpose. Otherwise, it’ll be my money or my health on the line. Yeah, sure, regulating businesses may make it hard to do business, but no one said it would be easy. Businesses may have the right to exist, but that doesn’t mean they should endanger people’s health.
Carbon dioxide should be our first concern. Businesses that release carbon dioxide should have to pay for it, so the rest of us can afford to pick up after them.

Having businesses pay for pollution will collapse the economy. Businesses need free markets to be able to operate and continue producing goods that people can use. Otherwise, people won’t be able to get things they need, like food. Imagine, if all the truck companies paid a fee for all the carbon dioxide they release, then maybe food would be slowed down from being shipped up highway 5! We can’t afford to do that. Besides, people pollute too. If businesses pay for pollution, then people should too, and I’m not having my freedom limited in that way.
