Last week, John Amaechi, a former NBA center, came out of the closet as a homosexual man. This was an incredibly brave act in a sports culture dominated by machismo and image. Tim Hardaway, a player for the Miami Heat came out as a bigot soon after, proclaiming "You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known, I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."
Some apologists have defended him with, "he's saying what other players are thinking." I don't care, there's no excuse for bigotry.

Who cares if he's a bigot! I don't watch sports to get involved with gender politics. His views on gays might not be very PC, but do I need to hear about it? This story has gotten blown way out of proportion by the liberal media. A man's sexuality has nothing to do with his abilities as a basketball player, and Hardaway's job is to get points and that's it!
